Unveil the Meritamen Project
Our line of handwoven home textiles is called “Meritamen” after the name of the fourth and dearest daughter of Ramses from his wife Nefertari.
Her Glorious statue, located in heart of Akhmim city in the governorate of Souhag has granted her the title of “the Bride of Akhmim”. The statue remains untouched till this day, in its original place.
Egyptologists have always recognized the city of Akhmim, to have been the largest – and possibly the only – weaving city in ancient Egypt. What is however truly marvelous about Akhmim is that thousands of years later, it still remains the capital of handwoven textiles in Egypt.
It is no surprise that when we first considered to start our own line of home textiles; we looked at none other than this amazing city, where we handpicked 10 of Akhmim’s finest professional weavers to help us bring our project to life, one knot at a time.
The materials we use have not been overlooked either, as we procure some of Egypt’s finest Egyptian cotton yarn, which we provide to local women of Akhmim who turn the yarn into big lumps; which are later used onto the looms of our master artisans to create their masterpieces.
The fabrics are then carefully trimmed to the required measurements and fittings requested by our clients; and are then finished before they are washed and ironed; to be checked for quality control; we then label them, to finally have our known handwoven home textiles pieces ready in all shapes, sizes and colors (i.e. cushion covers, table runners, placemats, and towels…etc.); then shipped to our clients all over the world.

Our handwoven home textiles collection is also easy to maintain, as it is dishwasher friendly, and is quite the hassle-free garment as it dries quickly. All you need to do is to toss it into the washer or to even hand-wash it, then hang dry or put in your dryer and it’s ready to use once again.

Authentic Akhmim Textile
Our master weavers of Akhmim stick to the area’s traditional ancient Egyptian hand-weaving methods. Said methods require the usage of a large wooden loom that takes up to 4 people to operate together; in order to produce and create the unique handwoven home textiles that are famous for their light weight and durability
